With deep sadness … Lux Interior has passed away  ……..

[update - 4:52pm PST]

The news of Lux’s death really hit me hard today. Sure, The Cramps have been out of the spotlight for several years, but that didn’t cease me from enjoying their music on a frequent basis. The Cramps have spawned a million bands. Lux is/was the real deal. I found him more appealing than even a Mick Jagger. I love the Stones, but Lux and The Cramps really struck a chord within me and had a profound effect on my youth. The story goes that yes, I grew up in Whittier, California and briefly lived next door to Candy Del Mar. Candy played bass in The Cramps for a brief period. I think at that time I was about 11 years old. Imagine what an affect she had on me when she would return home from touring. I will never forget the stories she would tell me of UK audiences spitting on them while they played. I guess in the early 80′s that’s how UK audiences showed their appreciation and love for bands. Anyhow, I wont go on with dribble…..but I will say that I’ve been to countless Cramps concerts and each one got better and better. I will always remember the night when I was at the Hollywood club, Bar Deluxe, in the mid-90′s and the Iowa band The Horrors (not the shitty UK band) were playing their hearts out and Lux would yell “You Whorers” between each song, while he sipped his glass of red wine and wearing his Red Patton leather high heels. Lux was an original through and though. Head to Toe. Song to Song. We’re lucky that we had him in our lifetime. Ironically, He and Ivy lived near the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale. I’m not being disrespectful, due to today’s developments, but it only goes to show the true depth of the imagery and music that he created (…)

Lux died this morning at 430am in Glendale. He lived a few blocks from the Hospital and near Forest Lawn Cemetery as well. He will be missed by millions. Including me. I saw The Cramps many many many times.
